Focal Laser Ablation
A revolutionary, minimally invasive treatment for prostate cancer that destroys cancer cells precisely while protecting the healthy tissue around them and your quality of life.
What is Focal Laser Ablation?
Focal Laser Ablation (FLA) is a non-surgical prostate cancer treatment that uses laser energy to precisely destroy cancerous tissue within the prostate. Unlike traditional whole-gland treatments such as radical prostatectomy or radiation therapy, FLA targets only the tumor. The healthy tissue around it stays intact.
The procedure is guided by MRI imaging in real-time, allowing for exceptional precision. Dr. Walser is a pioneer of this technique, having treated over 500 patients and co-developed the international consensus statement on MRI-guided FLA.
Most recently, Dr. Walser has been a key developer of MRI-directed Ultrasound Guided Transperineal Focal Laser Ablation (TPLA), a new approach that combines the precision of MRI with the accessibility of ultrasound guidance.

Why Choose Focal Laser Ablation?
Minimally Invasive
No surgical incisions. The procedure is performed through a small needle under MRI guidance.
Preserves Quality of Life
Virtually eliminates the risks of impotence and incontinence associated with traditional surgery.
Precision Targeting
MRI guidance allows the laser to target only the cancerous tissue, sparing surrounding healthy tissue.
Quick Recovery
Most patients return to normal activities within days, not weeks or months.
